Assembling
the Invitations
Addressing the Invitations
All names and addresses on
your invitations
should be neatly hand written. Strict etiquette states
that
addresses
should not be typed, but this is becoming more common.
It is standard to use
black ink when addressing the invitations.
When
addressing the invitations the outer envelope should
incorporate the full formal
name of the person(s) you are inviting. If you are
including an inner envelope, then you may use shorter
forms of
the names accompanied by the names of family members
(which
should be listed under the parents' names.)
For instance...
Outer Envelope:
Married
Couple
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Kramer
245 Boston Avenue
Apartment 107
Lansing, Michigan 48912
|
Unmarried Couple
Ms.
Linda Green and Mr. Micheal Smith
|
Single
Person
Mr. Peter Anderson
|
Entire
Family/Household
Mr. and Mrs. Alan Johnson and Family
or
The Johnson Family
|
A return address should
be printed on the outer envelope on
the back flap. Obviously you will want to receive any
invitations that cannot be delivered by
return mail.
1. Take the response card with
its lettering facing up and place it under the flap of
the response card envelope...not completely inside of
the envelope.
2. Take the small
piece of tissue paper and place it over the lettering
on the invitation.
3. Place any extra
enclosures (such as reception cards and direction
maps) inside the invitation.
4. Place the response
card and envelope inside the invitation with the
lettering of the response card facing up. (Be sure
to pre-stamp
the response card envelope.)
5. Place the invitation
inside the inner envelope with the front of the
invitation facing the back flap of the envelope. (You
want the recipients
to receive their invitations with the lettering
facing them.) Do not seal the inner envelope.
6. Place the inner envelope inside the outer envelope.
The handwritten names of the guests on the inner envelope
should be facing the back of the outer envelope.
7. Address and
seal the outer envelope, making sure it contains
both the address of the person to whom you are sending
it
and your return address.
8. Stamp the outer
envelope and mail.
Note: The
Postal Service usually has a line of "LOVE" stamps
available in first-class denominations that would
add a special touch to your wedding invites.
