The
Mother of the Bride
The
mother of the bride also has many important duties…
The bride’s mother traditionally acts as the
official hostess at the wedding reception.
She is the last person seated before the processional
and the first person in the receiving line. She also
performs several other duties to help prepare for the
wedding day.

The
mother of the bride also plays
a very important role
behind
the scenes.
Her
unofficial duties are to listen
to the bride’s
complaints and
help the bride
vent her frustrations. She should
dutifully argue with the
bride anytime she
needs someone to argue
with. The
mother of the bride should
in general act as
a peacemaker and
persuade the father of the
bride not to declare
bankruptcy and
skip town before
the wedding.
But in
all seriousness,
the mother of the
bride should provide
invaluable emotional support to her daughter throughout
the entire wedding planning process!
Wedding Attire:
The mother
of the bride should wear
a dress or
suit with appropriate
style and
formality for the
wedding. The
color should compliment
and coordinate with the
colors of
the wedding; however it
should not be the exact
color of
the bride’s or attendants’ dresses!
She should also coordinate with the groom’s
mother. Their
dresses should
compliment each
other, but
again ideally
be different
colors.
Note: Neither
mother should wear white, a color reserved for
the bride, or black which indicates disapproval
of the wedding!
