A junior bridesmaid
is young girl between the ages of nine and fourteen,
too old to be a flower
girl yet to young to be a full-fledged bridesmaid.
Here is a list of all of the
traditional duties and responsibilities of the junior
bridesmaids…
Attend
and help the other bridesmaids with the
bridal shower (The junior bridesmaids should not
be expected to contribute financially to the bridal
shower.)
Attend the rehearsal
and rehearsal dinner
Walk in the processional
and stand at the altar along with the other attendants
Hand out programs at the
ceremony (optional)
Pass out bubbles, confetti, rice, or other send-off
props
Stand in receiving
line (optional)
If
the junior bridesmaid is the bride's own child, here
are some
special ways to incorporate her in the ceremony:
Walk
the bride down the aisle and stand with her at
the altar
Read
a poem or other passages
Perform
an instrument or sing a song during the ceremony
Participate
in a "family
vows" exchange (After the couple
exchanges vows, the kids gather
around, and the bride
and groom promise to care for the other's
children.)
Wedding
Attire:
A junior bridesmaid should wear a dress similar
to or matching the bridesmaids'. The
junior bridesmaid's parents should pay for all
of her wedding attire.
